Hazards Around Us

Most people seem to believe that all products sold in supermarkets, department stores, or hardware stores, are completely safe. Unfortunately, this is not the case. We will look at a few of the most serious offenders, and also see what we alternatives there are to these dangerous products.

Pesticides are one of the most common forms of poisons found in most homes throughout the world. Unfortunately, most people have no idea that the chemicals they are spraying can stay in the home environment up to 25 years, with each spraying adding another layer to the previous one.

The chemicals used in most commercial pesticides are called organophosphates. These chemicals are designed to block the respiratory system of insects, shutting down their ability to breathe. They are also designed to block the transmission of nerve impulses, shutting down the nervous system, and thus killing the insect. Though humans can tolerate a much greater amount of these poisons, they have basically the same effect on humans as on insects. It is no wonder then that there are so many people with diseases of the respiratory tract, such as asthma, etc., and also diseases of the nervous system such as epilepsy, palsy, twitching, Parkinson's, etc. Unfortunately, the damage done to the body's neurotransmitters is permanent, as the nervous system does not have the ability to heal itself. This is why it is IMPERATIVE that we stop poisoning the home environment and the food and drink that we consume. There are some safe alternatives, and we will examine some of them in this page.

Boric Acid Powder

A 5% mixture of boric acid powder is commonly available in many pharmacies and feed stores. It can effectively be used to kill cockroaches, and is much less toxic to humans than the pesticides now being sold in stores.

Cockroaches are similar to cats in at least one way: they lick themselves to clean themselves. A mixture of boric acid powder placed in the kitchen in out-of-the-way places will cling to their legs as they walk through it. When they return to their nests, they will lick themselves, and thus consume the boric acid, which will completely eat them from the inside out. End of problem.
