                                      What They Didn't Tell You

When you bought your cell phone there should have been a warning in the instructions booklet.  They should have told you that cell phones use the same type waves as your microwave oven.  They should have told you that their own industry paid for a 6-year study that proved that cell phones pose serious health risks.  They should have told you what you can do to make your phone less dangerous.  But they didn't.  Why?  One can only surmise that either they didn't want you to know, or they didn't feel that it was important information.   What do you think was the reason?

                             They Know

In reality the Cellular Telecommunications Industry Association, which represents all the manufacturers of cell phones,  knows that cell phones present a serious health hazard to users. This organization commissioned a 6-year research program, from 1993 to 1999, to investigate the safety of mobile phones.   They hired Dr. George Carlo, the "Chief Scientist of the World's Largest Research Effort into Wireless Safety", whose book is pictured here. " (From front cover) Dr. Carlo is a public health scientist, epidemiologist, lawyer, and the founder of the Science and Public Policy Institute" as stated on the back cover of his book.  Martin Schram, a "syndicated columnist, television commentator, and the  author of five books" co-authored this "extraordinarily informative" publication.   (Quotes from back cover).

The Townsend Letter for Doctors and Patients

The June, 2005 edition of the Townsend Letter has an informative article entitled Health Risks and Environmental Issues, written by Rose Marie Williams, MA. Ms. Williams reveals startling facts about man-made electromagnetism and its effects on the health of all living things. Some of the aspects covered in this article include the effects of man-made EMFs (electro-magnetic fields) on man's own internally generated EMFs (known as meridians), which maintain "control over all bodily functions from memory and reasoning to organ function and nerve health." This is the address of the Townsend Letter, in the event that you would like to request the entire article be sent to you, perhaps electronically.   http://www.tldp.com/

What Are the Symptoms and Hazards?

There are certain signs or symptoms that alert a person to the harmful effects of microwaves. Among them are:

1.
Confusion or disorientation

2. A warming effect on the side of the head where the phone is held.

3. Headaches

In addition, the effects which go unnoticed until such time as considerable damage has occurred are:

1. Blood-brain barrier damage. The brain has a covering which prevents bacteria and other harmful organisms from traveling from the body to the brain. The reason for this has to do with the fact that the brain has no other way to defend itself against bacterial or viral infections, as the body does. Radiation from cell phones damages the blood brain barrier, thus making individuals more susceptible to disease.

2.Micronuclei breaks in the DNA. This is a marker of cancer in the scientific world.  In other words, the DNA, from which new cells are constantly made in the body, becomes damaged due to microwave radiation

                   What You Can Do

There are a number of things that can be done to reduce the danger of microwave radiation.  They are as follows:

1. Buy and regularly use a headset.  This is the single most important thing anyone can do to reduce exposure.  It is important to get the phone away from the head.  For hopefully obvious reasons it would not be good to rest the phone on your lap while using it either.  In addition, people who have pacemakers need to be careful where the phone is positioned.

2. Check the strength of the signal when using the phone.  If the signal on the phone screen shows poor reception this means that the phone will increase the strength of the microwave to maintain the connection.  This means the phone will be sending and receiving greater amounts of radiation.

3. Reduce usage.  The mobile phone is here to stay, and has very valid uses, but spending hours talking on the phone each day greatly increases microwave damage.  Mobile phones are especially harmful for children because the microwaves enter much farther into the brain, and because children's cells throughout the body are growing much faster. The potential for mutation and destruction of those cells is much greater.

4.) Contact the Cellular Telecommunications Industry Association (CTIA) and let them know of your concern about the health hazards of microwave radiation.  Mention the studies cited here, and any others you may come across.   There are now many studies which prove the dangers of cell phones, but you don't see them mentioned on the CTIA website.   Urge them to develop safe technology.  Here's their address:  http://www.ctia.org/

What the CTIA Should Do

The Cellular Telecommunications Industry Association (CTIA)is making billions off of cell phone users.  They can and should be required to do a number of things to reduce the established health hazards of cell phones.  They are as follows:

1.) Stop marketing to children.  Cell phones are particularly harmful for children.

2.) Put the antennas (antennae) back on the cell phones.  Many of the early cell phones had antennas.  Microwave radiation hits the middle of the antenna when the phone is in use, so an antenna could at least distance the radiation from the head area somewhat.  At the very least they should make cell phones with antennas available for those people who are aware of the hazards, and wish to protect themselves.  Those people who are in disbelief about the hazards of cell phones  could continue to use phones without antennas.

3.) Provide earphones with every cell phone as standard equipment.  Make the earphones part of the phone itself, and retractable into the phone.

4.) Research, develop, and implement safer alternatives to microwave communication using the same infrastructure now in place.
